Media That Actually Gets Used

Media sitting loose in a sump only works on the water that happens to reach it. A reactor forces flow through the media rather than past it, so the whole charge stays in contact and gets used up evenly. It also puts the media somewhere you can service without dismantling anything else.

What's in This Collection

  • Media reactors — for carbon, GFO and other granular media, in a range of body sizes.
  • Biopellet reactors — built to keep pellets tumbling rather than packing down.
  • Kalk mixing reactors — for kalkwasser dosing.
  • CO2 scrubbers and absorbent media — for treating the air feeding a skimmer.
  • Reactor spares — O-rings, foam disks, extension kits, adaptors and replacement bodies.

Running One Well

  • Match flow to the media. Most granular media want a gentle tumble rather than a boil; too much flow grinds them to dust.
  • Feed a reactor from its own small pump where you can, so tuning it does not change anything else in the system.
  • Keep a spare O-ring. It is the part that gives out first and the cheapest thing here to have on hand.
  • Change media on a schedule rather than by eye. Exhausted media is just flow resistance in a nice housing.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
