Evaporative Cooling on a Budget

A fan blowing across the water surface cools by speeding up evaporation. It costs a fraction of a chiller, needs no plumbing and draws very little power — enough for a few degrees on a nano or a mid-size system, which is often all a summer heat spike calls for.

Evaporative cooling has two consequences worth planning for. Top-up demand goes up, so an auto top-off earns its keep once a fan is running, and salinity climbs in a marine tank if evaporated water is not replaced.
