Dip Before It Goes in the Display

A new coral can arrive with hitchhikers attached, and rinsing a frag in a bucket is a great deal easier than dealing with something once it is loose in an established reef. A dip is a short, controlled step taken at the point where it costs you least.

How a Dip Fits Into Quarantine

• Concentrated solution — diluted in tank water and used as a short bath, never added to the display.
• Small and professional sizes — an occasional-use bottle, and a concentrate for anyone handling corals regularly.
• Follow the label — dilution and dip time vary by product and by coral, and the bottle instructions take precedence over anything you read elsewhere.

Mix the dip in a separate container using water drawn from the tank, then rinse the coral in clean tank water afterwards so no dip solution rides into the display. Watch the coral while it sits in the dip and cut the time short if it looks stressed. Used dip water goes down the drain, never back into the aquarium. Questions? Email info@jlaquatics.com.
