Collection: Media Reactors

A media reactor forces water through a packed bed of media instead of letting it drift past, so carbon, GFO or biopellets stay in contact with the flow rather than being bypassed by it. This section holds reactor bodies across a range of sizes, complete packages with the feed pump included, modular dock-and-body systems, and the o-rings, foam disks, extension kits and adaptors that come up as service items. Body volume is the figure to settle first, since it decides how much media a reactor will hold.

Why a reactor rather than a media bag

Media sitting in a bag in the sump only works where water happens to pass over it, and flow finds the easy route around a packed bag. A reactor removes that choice: water enters at one end and leaves at the other, so the full flow passes through the bed. Spent media is also straightforward to swap out, and an outlet foam disk keeps fines out of the display.

What is listed here

  • Canister reactors in several body sizes for carbon and GFO.
  • Modular systems where one dock accepts different body volumes.
  • Biopellet reactors in an in-sump (INT) form.
  • Complete packages that bundle the reactor with a feed pump.
  • Spares: o-rings, foam disks, extension kits and media adaptors.

Matching reactor to media

Different media want different handling. Carbon and GFO are usually run in a gentle upward flow that keeps the bed just moving, since hard tumbling grinds granules into fines. Biopellets are the opposite and need enough flow to keep the whole bed turning over. Body volume is chosen against system volume and the dose the media calls for, and a valve on the feed line makes the rate adjustable once the reactor is in place.
