Product Description
Reef Octopus BioChurn 120INT Biopellet Reactor
The Reef Octopus BioChurn 120INT Biopellet Reactor is an in-sump biopellet reactor for marine and reef aquariums that need controlled solid carbon dosing and efficient biopellet movement.
BioChurn 120INT for In-Sump Biopellet Filtration
The BioChurn design keeps biopellet media in a rolling churn-style motion rather than blasting the pellets with direct flow pressure. This helps improve media suspension, supports bacterial colonization and provides extended contact time between nutrient-rich aquarium water and the biopellet media.
Reef Octopus BioChurn 120INT Features
- In-sump biopellet reactor for reef and saltwater aquariums.
- Equipped with an Aquatrance feed pump.
- Churn-style fluidization keeps biopellets moving in suspension.
- Cascading output design increases surface area for bacterial colonization.
- Upper containment plate helps keep media inside the reactor.
- Solid construction for long-term aquarium filtration use.
- Simple internal format is easier to use than external recirculating reactors.
- Biomedia is sold separately.
Nutrient Control and Setup Notes
Biopellet reactors are used as part of a nutrient export strategy for nitrate and phosphate management. Start with a conservative amount of media, allow the bacterial population to develop gradually and use the reactor with an appropriately sized protein skimmer for best results.

Directions
Install the reactor in the sump with the included pump and confirm the output returns safely to the filtration area. Rinse compatible biopellet media if directed by the media manufacturer, then start with a reduced amount and increase gradually over time. Adjust flow so the pellets move in a steady churn without clumping. Monitor nitrate, phosphate and skimmer performance during the first several weeks of use.
