Where the Waste Actually Is

Most of what fouls a tank is not in the water column — it is sitting in the substrate, breaking down slowly. A gravel vacuum lifts that out while you drain, which is why substrate cleaning and water changing are really one job rather than two.

What's in This Collection

  • Siphon gravel vacuums — mini through large, sized to substrate depth and tank height.
  • No-spill vacuums — long hose sets from 25 to 49 feet, draining straight to a sink or drain.
  • Handheld and battery cleaners — spot-clean without starting a siphon.
  • Multi-tool kits — 3-in-1 and 6-in-1 sets combining vacuum, scraper, net and rake.
  • Hose and tubing brushes — clear the inside of hoses and intakes where film builds up.

Work in sections. Vacuuming the whole substrate at once, especially in a deep bed, disturbs more than it removes — a third of the floor per water change keeps the bacteria colony intact while still exporting the waste. Keep the vacuum in the substrate until the water running through it clears. Questions? Email info@jlaquatics.com.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
