Collection: Reservoirs

Two jobs are covered here: holding the fresh water an auto top-off draws from, and holding the supplements a dosing pump meters out. Top-off reservoirs run from two to nine gallons in acrylic, with lids and quarter-inch tubing connections; dosing containers are narrower, sized in litres, and some carry a low-level sensor that reports back to a matched pump. There is also a gravity-fed bottle that tops off a small tank with no power at all. Acrylic does not suit every additive, so read the product page before filling a container with an organic carbon source.

Sizing a top-off reservoir

The right capacity follows from how much your tank evaporates in a day and how long you want to go between refills. A reservoir that lasts a week is comfortable; one that lasts a fortnight makes going away straightforward. Think about placement as well, since a low, wide container fits under a cabinet more easily than a tall one, and a pump with enough delivery head can draw from a reservoir in another room entirely.

What is listed here

  • Acrylic auto top-off reservoirs at two, five and nine gallons, with lids and quarter-inch tubing connections.
  • Slim dosing containers at 1.5, 2.5 and 5 litres for supplement solutions.
  • Containers with an integrated low-level sensor that signals a matched dosing pump.
  • A dual-chamber reservoir sized for two-part dosing, with optical level reporting.
  • A gravity-fed bottle that replaces evaporated water on a small tank without electricity.

Filling and upkeep

Use reverse osmosis or deionised water in a top-off reservoir rather than tap water, or whatever the tap carries is concentrated into the display a little at a time. Keeping the lid on slows evaporation out of the reservoir itself. Check chemical compatibility before storing supplements in acrylic, since organic carbon solutions and alcohols can craze or crack it and the product pages note where a container is unsuitable. Where a container has built up residue around the cap, empty and rinse it instead of refilling over the top. Email info@jlaquatics.com if you are matching a container to a particular doser.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
