Cover for the Failures You Are Not There For

Most aquarium losses happen while nobody is watching. A return pump stops, a fitting starts weeping onto the cabinet floor, or a parameter drifts between test days. The equipment listed here is bought before any of that happens: it either keeps water moving, tells you something has changed, or shuts the problem off.

What's in This Collection

  • Leak detection probes and sensors - for the cabinet base, the sump stand and under carpet.
  • Battery back-ups for flow pumps - to keep water moving through a power cut.
  • Titanium ground probes - for aquarists earthing the tank water.
  • Continuous ammonia and pH alerts - in-tank colour-change indicators that sit between test kits.
  • Flood protection and automated water change control.

Setting It Up

  • Test every sensor by hand once it is mounted. A leak probe you have never triggered is an assumption rather than a safeguard.
  • Put leak sensors where water arrives first, which is usually the low point of the cabinet base and not the back wall.
  • Check what each device needs to run. Some report to an aquarium controller, others work standalone.
  • Alerts and back-ups do different jobs: one tells you, the other buys time. A tank left alone for days at a stretch usually wants both.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
