Seeing Past the Surface

Two things get between you and the tank: surface ripple, and the blue light corals are grown under. A viewer solves the first by putting a flat lens through the surface. A filter lens solves the second by cutting the blue cast, so colours read closer to what your eye expects.

What's in This Collection

  • Coral viewers — magnifying tubes from 6 to 10 inches that break the surface for a clear top-down view.
  • Clear magnifiers — glass-mounted lenses for a magnified side-on look, in several sizes.
  • Orange filter lenses — cut the blue cast for viewing and photography under actinic lighting.
  • Phone photo lens kits — clip-on macro and wide-angle lenses, with filters for tank shots.
  • Camera mounts — magnet-mounted brackets for fixing a small camera to the glass.
  • Viewing portals — a fixed lens for a permanent top-down view.

Top-down is a different animal from side-on. Corals that look ordinary through the front pane frequently look completely different from above, which is why coral photography is nearly always shot that way. Questions? Email info@jlaquatics.com.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
