Long Tools, Dry Sleeves

Planting by hand means reaching in to the shoulder and clouding the tank while you work. Long-handled tools do the same job from above the waterline, and they place a stem far more precisely than fingers can — which matters most with carpeting plants, where spacing is the whole design.

What's in This Collection

  • Straight tweezers and forceps — for planting stems and positioning small pieces.
  • Spacing tweezers — angled for setting carpeting plants at even intervals.
  • Straight scissors — trimming stems and cutting runners.
  • Curved scissors — following the contour of a carpet without gouging it.
  • Substrate scrapers — level and shape substrate, and clean the front glass at the sand line.
  • Cultivating pots — grow plants in a pot rather than rooted into the substrate.
  • Plant glue — cyanoacrylate gel for attaching mosses and epiphytes to wood and rock.

Rinse and dry stainless tools straight after use, especially in a marine tank. Stainless resists corrosion; it does not ignore saltwater indefinitely. Questions? Email info@jlaquatics.com.

J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
