Tubing is the wear part

In a peristaltic pump the rollers compress a short length of tube against the housing, and over thousands of cycles that tube takes a set. As it does, the volume delivered per rotation falls, so the pump keeps running while quietly delivering less than the schedule says. Manufacturers quote a service life in running hours for head tubing; the practical answer is to change it on that interval and recalibrate straight afterwards rather than waiting for the shortfall to show up in test results.

Keeping a dosing setup tidy

Colour-coding pays for itself the first time you refill three containers at once, because a different tube colour per solution removes any chance of putting alkalinity down the calcium line. Run the lines through a holder at the sump so the outlets stay fixed above the water line, and leave enough slack that lifting a container cannot pull a tube free.
