Small Tubing, Large Consequences

An RO unit is only as good as the line running between its stages and the reservoir. Polyethylene tubing holds pressure, resists kinking and pushes straight into quick-connect fittings without clamps or glue, which is why almost every RO system on the market is plumbed with it.

Colour-code your runs. One colour for feed water, another for product water and a third for waste turns a tangle under the cabinet into something you can trace at a glance, which matters when a fitting starts weeping at midnight. Cut the tube square with a proper tubing cutter rather than scissors, because an angled cut is the usual reason a push-fit joint drips. Leave a little slack at every fitting as well — tubing pulled taut works itself loose over time, and a line under tension will pop out of a collet long before a relaxed one does.
