Driftwood for Natural Aquascapes

Natural wood is the backbone of most freshwater aquascapes — it gives plants and mosses something to attach to, creates territory and cover for fish, and lends a tank that wild, riverbed look. Different woods bring different shapes and character. We carry driftwood from Zoo Med and Hygger, plus Seachem plant glue for attaching mosses and epiphytes.

Types of Wood

  • Spider wood — twisting, branchy pieces prized for dramatic, tree-like aquascapes.
  • Mopani wood — dense, two-tone hardwood that sinks readily and lasts for years.
  • Cholla wood — hollow cactus skeleton loved by shrimp and plecos as food and cover.

A couple of things worth knowing: most driftwood leaches tannins that tint the water a tea colour — harmless, and many keepers like the natural look, but a pre-soak reduces it.
