Chaetomorpha Macroalgae
Chaetomorpha is the most popular and fastest growing macroalgae. It is used to lower nitrates and phosphates, and also to house copepods and other micro fauna. It is most commonly used in refugium but may also be placed directly in the aquarium. It does not produce roots or holdfasts but instead grows as a tangled mass like green spaghetti.

Mangrove - Roots and Shoots
The Mangrove pod is a young tree that will help clean phosphates and nitrates from the water as it grows. It should be submerged only half way in water, allowing the top end to sprout leaves out of the water. It is important to mist the leaves with fresh water often to wash the salt that is expelled onto them as the tree absorbs salt water through the roots. Our mangroves are kept in brackish water at SG 1.018 and can be acclimated to full salt water by placing them into a container of brackish water and letting it evaporate until it matches your aquarium. They can be planted in the aquarium, in an illuminated sump or used as a house plant.

Green Sea Lettuce Macroalgae
Green Sea Lettuce creates thin, flat sheets which are translucent and very beautiful. In time it may form a disc shaped holdfast. It can be grown in the aquarium but may be eaten by many species of fish, sea hares, and other invertebrates. It is usually kept in a refugium or algae tumbler under high light, and under such conditions it makes an excellent exporter of nitrates and phosphates. The harvested portions make a terrific treat for aquarium inhabitants.

Red Fork Macroalgae
This attractive algae grows as a deep rosy pink or red bush attached to the substrate via holdfast. Some varieties may be more orange, purple or cream colored. It grows up to 8 inches tall and can be identified by its branches which split in two, or fork outwards, as it grows. Calcium supplementation, bright lighting and moderate to high current will enhance growth. It is not usually eaten by any fish or invertebrates.
