Matching a replacement to your unit

Top-off pumps and their controllers are sold as matched pairs, and the pump is usually what gives out first. Manufacturers list spares by part number rather than by tank size, so the safest approach is to take the number from the failed part or from the original packaging and order against that. Voltage matters as well: 12 V and 24 V pumps are not interchangeable, and a pump that physically fits another controller will not necessarily be driven correctly by it.

Fitting a spare

Changing a pump is a good moment to look at the rest of the line. Clear any salt creep from the outlet fitting, confirm the siphon break still sits above the water line, and check that the sensor mount grips the pane at the height the controller was set for. Where a pump is being upgraded rather than replaced, a higher delivery head changes how quickly the tank refills, so watch the first few cycles before leaving the system unattended.
