How a calcium reactor works

Water is drawn into a sealed chamber packed with calcium carbonate media while CO2 is injected alongside it. The lowered pH inside the chamber brings the media into solution, and the effluent leaving the reactor carries calcium and carbonate back to the aquarium. Because the process runs continuously, consumption is met as it happens rather than through a daily manual dose.

What else the setup needs

A reactor body on its own is only part of the installation. Plan for a CO2 cylinder with a regulator and needle valve, calcium carbonate media to fill the chamber, and a way to read pH inside it. Product pages list which bubble counters, probe holders and fittings come with each body, since these differ between the ranges. Effluent is normally started slow and raised in small steps over several days, with alkalinity tested between adjustments rather than set to a target rate on the first day.
