Product Description
Reef Octopus VarioS CR220 Calcium Reactor
The Reef Octopus VarioS CR220 Calcium Reactor is a large controllable DC calcium reactor for high-demand reef aquariums that need substantial media capacity, reverse-flow CO2 recirculation and VarioS 6 pump control.
VarioS CR220 for High-Demand Reef Supplementation
The VarioS CR220 is the larger single-chamber VarioS calcium reactor option in this group, with a 9 inch body and 9.3 L media capacity. It is intended for large reef aquariums, SPS-heavy systems and high-growth coral displays where stable calcium and alkalinity replacement is critical.
VarioS CR220 Features
- VarioS 6 DC recirculation pump: Provides powerful variable-speed internal flow for larger calcium reactor setups.
- 9 inch reactor body: Larger body increases media volume for sustained mineral supplementation.
- Reverse-flow CO2 recirculating design: Helps maximize contact between CO2, water and aragonite media.
- Built-in bubble counter: Allows visual monitoring of CO2 bubble rate during tuning.
- Precision effluent valve: Gives fine control over reactor output and alkalinity delivery.
- pH probe holder with plug: Supports chamber pH monitoring with a compatible pH probe and controller.
- 1/4 inch inlet and outlet: Works with standard reactor feed and effluent tubing layouts.
- Removable lid: Provides easier access for media replacement and reactor cleaning.
Reef Aquarium Sizing Notes
Manufacturer guidance rates the VarioS CR220 for aquariums up to 600 gallons depending on demand. For heavy SPS systems, fast-growing coral displays or aquariums with large clam populations, size and tune based on measured alkalinity consumption rather than display volume alone.

Directions
Install the reactor securely near the sump and connect a suitable feed source, CO2 regulator and effluent return line. Fill with compatible calcium reactor media, leak-test the system and begin with conservative pump, CO2 and effluent settings. Test alkalinity daily during startup and adjust gradually until reactor output matches the aquarium's daily consumption. Maintain feed pressure slightly higher than a full-flowing influent for stable operation.
