IceCap Controllable DC Media Reactor - Large
The IceCap Controllable DC Media Reactor - Large is the highest-capacity model in the controllable DC media reactor series, built for freshwater and marine aquariums up to 200 gallons. With approximately 820mL media capacity, a DC-700 adjustable feed pump, 210-700 L/H flow range, and removable twin-chamber cartridge, it is designed for larger systems that need more media volume and stronger flow control.
Large IceCap DC Media Reactor Overview
The Large IceCap Controllable DC Media Reactor is suited to aquariums where smaller reactors may not provide enough media capacity or contact time. It gives reef keepers, saltwater hobbyists, and freshwater aquarists a controlled way to run phosphate media, carbon, biopellets, or other compatible media while still keeping the reactor compact relative to its capacity.
The larger 3.2 inch body and 820mL media capacity make this model useful for higher bioload aquariums, heavily fed systems, larger reef tanks, and aquariums where phosphate control or water polishing needs more media than a nano-size reactor can hold. The controllable DC-700 pump helps tune the reactor so the media moves properly instead of being blasted, compacted, or left stagnant.
Large DC Reactor Features
- High media capacity: Approx. 820mL maximum media capacity supports larger aquariums and heavier filtration demand.
- DC-700 controllable feed pump: Included adjustable 12V DC pump provides stronger flow capability for the large chamber.
- Wide flow range: Approx. 210-700 L/H flow range allows tuning for different media types and aquarium goals.
- Twin-chamber removable cartridge: The two-part canister supports flexible media use and easier service access.
- Complete operating package: Includes pump, controller, power supply, reactor body, chamber parts, bracket, flow diverter, sponges, and filter floss.
- Freshwater and marine use: Suitable for reef tanks, fish-only systems, freshwater aquariums, and larger sump-based filtration layouts.
- Easy media service: Media can be changed by removing the canister rather than pulling the entire reactor from the sump.
- Durable acrylic body: Clear construction allows quick inspection of media movement and service condition.

Large Media Reactor Compatibility Notes
Best for larger media loads: The IceCap Controllable DC Media Reactor - Large is appropriate when the aquarium requires more media volume, but media amount should still be based on the media manufacturer's dosing recommendation and the aquarium's actual nutrient level. Too much media or too much flow can cause rapid parameter changes or media breakdown.
Service access is important: Confirm height clearance before installation so the canister can be removed for media changes. Keep the controller and power supply dry, use drip loops, and clean the pump every few months to prevent reduced flow from debris or calcium buildup.
Setting Up the Large IceCap DC Media Reactor
Install the DC-700 feed pump, connect the controller and power supply, and load rinsed media into the lower canister with the included sponge support. Place the upper canister and floss as needed, mount or position the reactor in the sump, and begin at the lowest pump setting. Increase flow gradually until the media movement matches the media type, then monitor nutrient levels, water clarity, and pump performance during regular maintenance.
