Product Description
Seachem Reef Buffer - 500 Gram
Seachem Reef Buffer - 500 Gram is a powdered reef aquarium buffer formulated to raise pH to 8.3 while also increasing carbonate alkalinity in saltwater reef systems.
Seachem Reef Buffer for Reef pH 8.3
Reef Buffer is designed specifically for reef aquariums where organic acids can pull pH downward. Its higher pK of 8.6 helps maintain proper reef pH, making it different from standard marine buffers intended mainly for fish-only saltwater systems.
Reef pH and Alkalinity Buffer Benefits
- Raises reef aquarium pH to 8.3.
- Raises pH and carbonate alkalinity together.
- Uses a carbonate and bicarbonate salt blend.
- Higher pK of 8.6 supports reef pH stability in systems with heavier organic acid load.
- Best suited when pH correction is needed along with alkalinity support.
- Reef Builder or Reef Carbonate is the better choice when alkalinity needs to be raised without targeting pH.

Directions for Seachem Reef Buffer
Check pH and alkalinity before use. Use 5 g or 1 level teaspoon for every 150 L (40 US gallons) to raise pH by about 0.1 pH units and alkalinity by about 0.5 meq/L. Dissolve in at least 250 ml (1 cup) of freshwater before adding to the aquarium. Dosing needs may range from biweekly to several times per week in established reef systems. Do not exceed the recommended dose without testing pH and alkalinity, and do not allow alkalinity to exceed 6 meq/L. Do not directly mix with calcium, magnesium, or strontium supplements; add carbonate and calcium additives on alternate days or at least 30 minutes apart.
