IceCap In-Sump UV Sterilizer - 40 Watt
The IceCap In-Sump UV Sterilizer - 40 Watt is the highest-output model in the IceCap in-sump UV lineup, built for larger freshwater and saltwater systems that need a drop-in UV option without permanent plumbing. With a 40W high-output UV lamp, included EVO 2000 feed pump, larger vessel body, and 528 GPH maximum pump flow, it provides strong water-column UV treatment for systems where clarity, algae control, and microorganism reduction are important.
Large IceCap 40W In-Sump UV Overview
High-capacity in-sump UV support: The 40 watt IceCap In-Sump UV Sterilizer is rated for marine aquariums up to 400 gallons and freshwater systems up to 3000 gallons. It is the best fit in this series for larger reef systems, fish-only saltwater aquariums, high-volume freshwater aquariums, and systems with more demanding water-clarity or UV-treatment needs.
Plug-and-play design with matched pump: The included EVO 2000 feed pump removes the need to guess at basic pump sizing for standard operation. The drop-in format also avoids permanent plumbing, making it easier to add UV support to a sump-based system without reworking the return line or installing an external UV loop.
Designed for serious water-column treatment: Properly operated UV can reduce free-floating algae, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and parasite pressure as water moves through the chamber. It is especially useful when paired with strong mechanical filtration and regular maintenance so treated suspended material can be removed from the system.
40 Watt In-Sump UV Features
- Largest IceCap in-sump UV model: Offers the highest water-volume rating and strongest included pump in this in-sump series.
- Drop-in sump operation: No permanent plumbing is required for standard installation, making it easier to add UV to existing sump systems.
- EVO 2000 pump included: The supplied feed pump supports the larger UV body and higher maximum flow requirement.
- 40W high-output lamp: Strong UV output supports larger systems and higher water-treatment demand.
- Directional output parts included: The output down pipe and elbow help route treated water inside the sump.
- Freshwater and marine capable: Suitable for reef, fish-only saltwater, freshwater, and large aquarium filtration systems when sized correctly.
- Beneficial bacteria friendly: Established bacteria on media, substrate, rock, and surfaces are not stripped away because UV treats only water passing through the unit.
- Serviceable design: The lamp and quartz sleeve can be cleaned or replaced during routine maintenance.

40W In-Sump UV Compatibility Notes
Requires sufficient sump space: The IceCap In-Sump UV Sterilizer - 40 Watt is the tallest and largest model in this group, so confirm chamber footprint, 24" height, water level, service clearance, and power cord routing before installation. The top electrical section must remain above water at all times.
Not fully submersible: This unit is designed for in-sump use, but not full submersion. Keep the ballast, power connections, and electrical components dry and protected from salt creep, splash, and condensation. Use a properly grounded GFCI outlet and drip loops on all power cords.
Flow should match the treatment goal: For bacteria and algae reduction, CoralVue lists higher flow guidance than for parasite-focused use. Slower flow increases exposure time, while higher flow moves more system water through the sterilizer. Match the setup to the aquarium volume and treatment objective.
Setting Up the IceCap 40W In-Sump UV Sterilizer
Assemble the feed pump, quartz sleeve, UV lamp, ballast connection, output down pipe, and directional elbow following the manufacturer instructions. Place the assembled unit upright in a stable sump chamber where the electrical section remains above the highest water level. Power the feed pump first and confirm smooth flow through the sterilizer, then check for leaks before powering the UV ballast. Clean the quartz sleeve as needed and replace the lamp and sleeve about once per year or around the listed lamp life to maintain performance.
