Brightwell Aquatics MicroBacter Start XLF - 500ml is a larger bottle of 15X live nitrifying bacteria for freshwater aquariums. It helps seed biological filtration, reduce ammonia and nitrite, and support faster cycling in new or disrupted freshwater systems.
Brightwell MicroBacter Start XLF 500ml for Larger Freshwater Setups
The 500 ml size is well suited to larger freshwater aquariums, multiple tanks, or situations where biological filtration needs stronger support. It can be used during new aquarium startup, after medication, after major filter cleaning, or when increased bioload creates extra demand on the nitrifying bacteria bed.

Brightwell Start XLF 500ml Compatibility and Handling Notes
- Size: 500 ml bottle.
- Use: Freshwater aquariums.
- Product type: Live nitrifying bacteria culture.
- Remove chlorine and chloramine before dosing.
- Do not combine with other bacteria products until the cycle is complete.
- Clumps, earthy smell, off smell, and temporary cloudiness are normal for this bacterial product.
- Store below 80°F when possible; refrigeration around 50°F helps preserve potency. Do not freeze.
MicroBacter Start XLF Freshwater Cycling Directions
Shake vigorously immediately before dosing. Add the measured dose to an area of high flow. For new freshwater aquariums, dose 30 ml per 25 US gallons and monitor ammonia and nitrite daily. Turn off UV sterilization during the cycling period and do not use competing bacteria products until cycling is complete. If ammonia or nitrite is above 0.2 ppm, dose 10 ml per 25 US gallons if needed. For fishless cycling, pair MicroBacter Start XLF with MicroBacter QuikCycl and wait until ammonia and nitrite read zero before adding livestock or plants.

Return Policy — Aquarium Equipment & Supplies
- All returns and/or exchanges must be made within 30 days of receipt of product.
- Before returning or exchanging any goods, you must contact J&L Aquatics to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). Items returned without prior authorization will be declined.
- Returned items must be unused, in original packaging, in as-new condition, and in perfect sellable condition. All returns are subject to inspection upon receipt.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all online returns. This fee includes the cost of outbound shipping.
- Customer is responsible for return shipping costs on standard returns.
- Order cancellations made before shipping are not subject to a restocking fee.

Defective, Warranty & DOA Items
- If you receive an item that is defective, not working, or dead on arrival (DOA), please contact us as soon as possible.
- Confirmed defective and warranty returns have no restocking fee and no Affirm fee. Customer does not pay return shipping — J&L Aquatics will provide a prepaid return label.
- All defective claims are subject to inspection. Items showing signs of customer damage, improper installation, or misuse are not covered under warranty.

Affirm & Financing Orders
- Affirm or similar financing orders that are cancelled or returned in-store are subject to a 5% service charge. This covers the processing fee charged to us by the financing provider.
- The Affirm service charge does not apply to confirmed defective or warranty returns.
