This design allows the second layer of your scape to safely "float" above this bottom layer, promoting healthy flow around the rock work and over the substrate. Foundation Rock can be siliconed to the glass if desired.

Prior to using Zoo Med Spider Wood it is suggested that the wood be soaked in a separate container so that it becomes waterlogged or weighing it down until it no longer floats. During the first week of having the wood immersed, beneficial bacteria will feed on small organics within the wood, creating a thin white film on the woods surface. This is a natural process, and should dissipate and filter out as the organics are consumed. Note: Each piece of Spider Wood will vary in shape and size. Sizes are approximate.

What is Galapagos Pet Cholla Wood
Overview
Galapagos Cholla Wood is actually a fallen, desert cactus skeleton!
It's porous and fibrous texture attracts shrimps and other aquatic micro fauna. They are also naturally good anchors for growing aquatic plants and look very intriguing underwater.
The Cholla Wood has natural tannins that lower aquatic pH gradually and naturally! Cholla Wood is also a classic wood decoration for desert terrariums home to desert snakes, geckos, chameleons, bearded dragons, and uromastyx! They even make natural perches for all birds.
Cholla Wood Branches come in a variety of sizes to fit all tanks.
For Aquariums we recommend presoaking natural woods in a separate tub of water and changing the water daily. This can be done for up to two weeks and will help remove excess tannins, a non-toxic organic substance, that can dye your tank water a tea color. Use a clean brush to remove any extra debris and consider boiling the wood for one hour to sterilize before adding to your aquarium.

Zoo Med's Betta Mopani Wood is a natural wood item that is designed to make the water chemistry of your Betta tank closer to what a Betta would experience in the wild.
By placing this small piece of Mopani wood in your Betta tank it will naturally leach "tannins" which will give the water a light to dark brown tint plus lower the pH of your water. (Bettas in the wild live in water naturally tinted by decaying wood and leaves and with a lower pH.)
Should the water be too dark brown or not to your liking you can remove the Mopani wood and soak in a clean container of water continually changing the water until the shade goes from a dark brown to light brown or clear.

Onyx Sand is a porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Being carbonate rich, Onyx Sand provides an advantage to any plants able to utilize bicarbonates. Onyx Sand is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels.
