Collection: Freshwater & Planted

Seachem's planted-tank and freshwater additives. The Flourish line covers the all-round Flourish fertilizer, Flourish Excel as a liquid carbon source, Flourish Tabs for root feeders, Flourish Advance, and single nutrients - nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, iron and trace - for topping up whatever runs short. The buffers set water chemistry: Equilibrium raises general hardness, Alkaline Buffer and Acid Buffer move pH up or down, and Neutral Regulator holds it near 7. For African cichlids there is Malawi/Victoria Buffer, Cichlid Lake Salt and Cichlid Trace. Dose a single-nutrient bottle only when a test shows that nutrient is low.

Fertilizing a planted tank

Flourish – the all-round plant supplement and the base of most dosing routines.
Flourish Excel – a liquid carbon source for tanks without pressurized CO2, or alongside it.
Flourish Tabs – pushed into the substrate near heavy root feeders such as swords and crypts.
Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Iron and Trace – single nutrients for correcting one shortfall at a time.
Flourish Advance – a growth supplement used alongside regular fertilizing.

Setting pH and hardness

Equilibrium adds the minerals plants and fish need in soft or RO water. Alkaline Buffer and Acid Buffer are used together to set pH and KH where you want them, and Neutral Regulator brings water toward 7.0.

Rift lake and blackwater tanks

Malawi/Victoria Buffer, Cichlid Lake Salt and Cichlid Trace recreate the hard, alkaline water of the African rift lakes. At the other end of the scale, Catappa tea bags release tannins that tint the water amber for bettas, tetras and other blackwater species.

Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
