Aquatic plants pull carbon from the water to grow, and in a well-lit tank the natural supply runs out fast. Adding pressurized CO2 is the single biggest step toward the dense, colourful growth you see in aquascaping competitions — it lets plants use the light and nutrients you're already providing.
