Red Sea Reef-Frame 500 - White Cabinet
The Red Sea Reef-Frame 500 - White Cabinet pairs a 405 litre (107 US gallon) eurobraced ultra-clear glass aquarium with a 110 litre (29 gallon) filtration sump and reinforced white marine-spec plywood cabinet. With a total system volume of 515 litres (136.3 US gallons), it is the largest aquarium in Red Sea's REEF-FRAME series, providing a 150 cm (59.1 inch) display for substantial reefscapes and a customizable equipment arrangement.
The REEF-FRAME 500 combines 15 mm ultra-clear front glass, perimeter eurobracing, a large surface-skimming overflow, quiet rectangular downflow, and precision ReefGate valve. Dual curved 25 mm return outlets support single- or dual-pump installations, while the REEF-SPEC sump includes an adjustable protein skimmer chamber, removable ReefMat-ready filtration section, and optional refugium-divider compatibility. The white cabinet creates a bright furniture-style presentation while keeping filtration and supporting equipment beneath the aquarium.
Red Sea Reef-Frame 500 White Glass Aquarium and Cabinet
- 150 cm (59.1 inch) aquarium length: The extended display provides room for multiple coral zones, separated rock structures, and open swimming channels within a single reef aquarium.
- 405 litre (107 gallon) display: The main aquarium provides a substantial viewing area while locating filtration and return equipment inside the cabinet below.
- 15 mm (0.59 inch) ultra-clear front panel: The low-iron viewing glass reduces unwanted tint, with eurobracing and high-quality euro-silicone used for structural reinforcement.
- 57.5 cm (22.6 inch) front-to-back depth: The additional depth allows larger rock structures to be positioned away from the viewing glass, with space for circulation and cleaning around the aquascape.
- Reinforced white marine-spec cabinet: The plywood stand supports the full contour of the aquarium and incorporates adjustable leveling feet, stainless steel hinges, and splash-resistant doors.
- Customizable base system: Lighting, return circulation, skimming, wavemakers, and electronic monitoring can be selected independently rather than supplied as a fixed MAX equipment package.
Hydrodynamic Plumbing with Two Curved Return Outlets
The REEF-FRAME 500 uses an enlarged rectangular downflow inlet and hydrodynamically designed plumbing to move water from the display into the sump. The high-precision ReefGate valve regulates drainage through the main downpipe, while dual curved return outlets provide flexibility for distributing filtered water back into the aquarium.
- Two 25 mm (approximately 1 inch) return connections: The dual outlets can be operated using one return pump or two separate pumps, allowing the return plumbing to be configured around the selected equipment.
- ReefGate precision flow valve: Small adjustments control the overflow water level and help maintain near-silent operation when correctly balanced against the return pumps.
- Secondary overflow bypass: A regulated primary drain and separate bypass provide the system's two-path overflow arrangement.
- Removable surface-skimming combs: Water enters through comb sections surrounding the central overflow, which can be removed for cleaning when deposits or debris accumulate.
- Factory-designed plumbing: The supplied pipework provides a defined water path through the system, with optional metric and USA connection kits available for customized installations.
110 Litre Sump with ReefMat-Ready Filtration
The 110 litre (29 US gallon) REEF-SPEC sump is an important reason to consider the REEF-FRAME 500. Its larger filtration area accommodates the mechanical filtration system, adjustable skimmer chamber, and return pump, while supporting optional automatic fleece filtration and a dedicated refugium section.
- Adjustable skimmer chamber: Operating water height can be set between 17 and 23 cm (6.7-9.1 inches), providing flexibility when selecting compatible protein skimmers.
- Two 225-micron filter bags: The supplied fine-mesh mechanical filters capture suspended particles entering the sump and can be removed for cleaning.
- Two included media cups: The filtration compartment includes media cups as an alternative arrangement for the mechanical filtration section.
- ReefMat-ready mechanical compartment: The removable filter tray and divider allow conversion to compatible automated roller filtration without redesigning the standard drain plumbing.
- ReefMat 1200 upgrade path: Red Sea specifies the ReefMat 1200 for the equivalent REEF-FRAME MAX 500 system, providing an identified automatic filtration option.
- Optional refugium divider: A compatible partition can establish a dedicated refugium area within the sump for aquarists planning additional biological filtration.
- Bubble-trap protection: Water passes through a bubble-management section with coarse sponge before reaching the return chamber, helping keep skimmer-generated bubbles out of the display.
Equipment Considerations for a Larger Mixed Reef
The REEF-FRAME 500 can be configured for marine fish displays, soft coral and LPS reefs, or mixed reef aquariums using appropriately selected lighting, filtration, and circulation. Its larger display requires careful equipment planning, particularly when deciding how to light the full length, maintain flow through the aquascape, and service the sump.
- Recommended return pump: Red Sea specifies one ReefRun G2 8000 with an adjustable flow range of 4,100-8,300 L/h (1,080-2,200 US gph), sold separately.
- Dual return configuration: The aquarium supports a single pump feeding both outlets or separate return pumps, depending on the plumbing arrangement.
- Reef lighting: Red Sea pairs the corresponding MAX 500 with two ReefLED G2 170 fixtures. This provides a manufacturer equipment reference for planning lighting over the 150 x 57.5 cm (59.1 x 22.6 inch) footprint, although lighting is not included with the standard REEF-FRAME system.
- Protein skimmer fitment: Select a skimmer suitable for the intended system that fits the sump and operates within the adjustable 17-23 cm (6.7-9.1 inch) skimmer chamber water level.
- Supplementary circulation: Dedicated wavemakers can move water around large rock structures and coral colonies beyond the circulation produced by the sump return outlets.
- Automatic top-off: An ATO system is recommended to maintain stable sump water level and salinity. ReefControl and top-off equipment are separate purchases with this bare-system configuration.
REEF-FRAME 500 Versus Smaller Reef Aquariums
- Compared with the 350: The 500 offers an additional 30 cm (11.8 inches) of aquarium length, 2.5 cm (approximately 1 inch) of front-to-back depth, and 5 cm (2 inches) of display height.
- Greater filtration capacity: Its 110 litre (29 gallon) sump is substantially larger than the 71 litre (18.8 gallon) sump used in the 350, providing more room for compatible filtration equipment.
- Additional supplied mechanical filtration: The 500 includes two filter bags and two media cups instead of the single bag and cup supplied with the 350.
- Thicker glass construction: The 500 uses a 15 mm (0.59 inch) ultra-clear front panel compared with 12 mm (0.47 inches) on the 350.
- Installation requirements: Red Sea lists an approximate filled system weight of 772 kg (1,703 lb), making floor support, delivery access, and suitable lifting arrangements important considerations before purchase.

Directions
- Choose a location capable of supporting approximately 772 kg (1,703 lb). Red Sea specifies at least 10 cm (4 inches) behind the aquarium and recommends approximately 60 cm (24 inches) of side access for maintenance.
- Assemble and level the reinforced white cabinet according to Red Sea's instructions before positioning the aquarium. The glass aquarium alone weighs approximately 133 kg (293 lb), so arrange appropriate lifting assistance.
- Install the sump, downflow, and return plumbing with connector O-rings correctly positioned. Hand-tighten threaded fittings without tools and avoid overtightening.
- Install the chosen return pump arrangement, protein skimmer, and other filtration equipment before filling. Follow the manufacturer's initial-fill procedure and inspect plumbing connections for leaks.
- Set the skimmer chamber operating depth to the requirements of the selected protein skimmer.
- Adjust the ReefGate valve in small increments, allowing several minutes for the overflow water level to stabilize between adjustments.
- Perform a power-out test to ensure the sump has adequate capacity for water draining from the aquarium when the return pump stops. Repeat the test after significant changes to the sump equipment.
- Clean the filter bags, media cups, removable overflow combs, and return nozzles during routine maintenance.
- Register the aquarium with Red Sea within 90 days of purchase to qualify for the extended structural warranty.
