Product Description
Neptune COR-20 Water Pump
The Neptune COR-20 Water Pump is an ultra-premium variable-speed DC return pump for aquariums, designed for quiet high-flow operation as either a stand-alone pump or an Apex-connected smart return pump.
COR-20 Return Pump for Stand-Alone or Apex Use
The COR-20 is the larger model in Neptune’s COR return-pump lineup, delivering up to 2,000 GPH for medium to larger aquariums, high-flow return applications, manifolds, and advanced reef systems. It can be operated without an Apex using the included driver, or connected to a compatible Apex system for deeper monitoring, programming, feed modes, alerts, and remote pump visibility through Apex Fusion.
This makes the COR-20 especially useful for aquarists who want a premium return pump now with the option to integrate it into a full Apex system, or for existing Apex owners who want return-pump control tied into the rest of their aquarium automation.
Neptune COR-20 Features
- Up to 2,000 GPH flow: Delivers strong return-pump output for larger aquarium systems, manifolds, and equipment-heavy filtration layouts.
- Stand-alone or Apex-connected operation: Runs from the included COR-20 driver and power supply, or connects to a compatible Apex system for expanded control and monitoring.
- Energy-efficient DC performance: Uses up to 90W of power while providing strong controllable flow.
- WhisperDrive technology: Vector-controlled brushless DC motor operation helps reduce vibration and pump noise.
- IQ-Level flow calibration: Allows the pump to learn the desired maximum flow for the aquarium and return to that memorized level after interruptions.
- Feed Mode control: Slows the pump during feeding and helps prevent the return system from completely backing down before restarting.
- Obstruction detection: Provides visual error notification and Apex app notification when connected to Apex and a significant restriction is detected.
- Internal temperature protection: Monitors motor temperature and can reduce output to protect the pump while keeping water circulating.
- Internal or external installation: Suitable for submerged or external aquarium return-pump installations when plumbed correctly.
- Included plumbing fittings: Includes fitting options for common aquarium plumbing plus a larger 1.25" union to help reduce head loss.

Advanced COR-20 Pump Control
As a stand-alone pump, the COR-20 can be controlled through its driver interface for flow adjustment and feed modes. When connected to Apex, it becomes part of the broader aquarium control system, allowing the return pump to interact with feed routines, maintenance modes, alerts, water-level logic, leak routines, and other equipment behaviours.
That Apex integration is valuable on high-end systems because the return pump is central to oxygen exchange, filtration flow, temperature distribution, sump turnover, and equipment function. The ability to monitor status and receive alerts gives the aquarist a much clearer view of how the return system is performing.
Plumbing and Flow Notes
The COR-20 should be plumbed as efficiently as practical to preserve flow. Larger pipe diameter, fewer elbows, clean tubing, properly sized valves, and reduced restrictions can all improve real-world performance. Neptune includes a 1.25" union because larger return plumbing can reduce head loss and help the pump deliver more of its available output.
Actual aquarium flow will vary with vertical head height, pipe size, fittings, return nozzles, manifolds, reactors, UV sterilizers, and any other equipment installed in the return line. Basic plumbing knowledge and additional pipe, hose, fittings, valves, clamps, or adapters may be required for installation.
Setup Directions
Install the COR-20 internally or externally according to the aquarium plumbing layout, using the fitting size that best matches the system while minimizing restriction. Connect the pump to the COR-20 driver and included power supply, then configure stand-alone settings or connect to Apex and complete the Apex Fusion setup task. Check all plumbing for leaks, set the desired flow level, test feed mode, confirm restart behaviour, and verify alert settings before relying on the pump for daily operation.
