Lifegard Pro-Max UV Sterilizer - 25 Watt
The Lifegard Pro-Max UV Sterilizer - 25 Watt is a high-output 3 inch housing UV sterilizer for freshwater or saltwater aquarium systems where improved water clarity, flexible plumbing, and dependable UV exposure are important.
25 Watt Pro-Max UV for Compact Aquarium Systems
This 25 watt Pro-Max model is the entry point in Lifegard’s 3 inch Pro-Max UV lineup, giving aquarium hobbyists a compact sterilizer with the same angled flow-through design used across the series. It is well suited for smaller reef, freshwater, fish-only, or mixed aquarium systems where controlled flow through a UV chamber can help reduce free-floating algae and waterborne microorganisms.
Lifegard Pro-Max 25 Watt Features
- Flow-through Pro-Max housing: The patent-pending design uses less restrictive angled inlet and outlet ports to reduce plumbing complexity and make installation easier in tight aquarium stands or equipment spaces.
- Flexible installation orientation: The unit can be positioned in multiple ways to better suit new builds, retrofits, and replacement UV installations.
- High-output UV bulb: The 25 watt model uses a standard high-output UV bulb designed for germicidal UV exposure inside the sterilizer chamber.
- Internal protective sleeve: A replaceable internal sleeve protects the housing from UV exposure and is part of the Pro-Max service design.
- 2 inch union inlet and outlet: Large union ports support high-flow plumbing layouts and easier service access.
- 30 PSI maximum operating pressure: The housing is built for pressurized plumbing applications within the manufacturer’s operating limit.
- 9,000 hour effective lamp life: The UV lamp useful effective life is listed at 9,000 hours under the manufacturer’s stated conditions.
- Aquarium and pond sizing data: Manufacturer/J&L specifications list both aquarium and pond capacity ratings for sizing reference.

Flow Rate and UV Exposure Notes
The listed maximum flow rate is based on new lamp conditions and incorporates a 90% UV transmittance factor. For protozoa exposure at 180,000 uW/cm2, Lifegard/J&L guidance says to reduce the flow rate by a minimum of one sixth and monitor temperature carefully, since very low flow can add heat and may damage the UV unit or system.
Aquarium Installation Planning
Plan the installation around the desired UV goal, available plumbing space, pump output after head pressure, and service access for bulb and sleeve maintenance. The 2 inch unions may require adapters when connecting to smaller aquarium plumbing, and the sterilizer should be installed where it can be isolated, drained, opened, and serviced safely.
Setup and Service Directions
Install the quartz sleeve, required gaskets, UV bulb, and ballast according to the Lifegard instructions before operation. Do not power the UV lamp unless water is flowing through the sterilizer and the unit is properly assembled. Use a GFCI-protected outlet, create a drip loop, avoid looking directly at UV light, and replace the UV lamp on the manufacturer’s service schedule to maintain effective performance.
