Compact Biological Filtration with the Ista I-145
The Ista Round Bio-Sponge Aquarium Filter (Small) provides gentle mechanical and biological filtration for compact aquariums, breeding systems, shrimp tanks and other applications where a powerful intake current may be undesirable. When connected to an aquarium air pump, rising bubbles draw water through the porous sponge while increasing water movement and surface agitation.
The sponge captures suspended debris while providing a large surface area for beneficial nitrifying bacteria. Its low round profile and weighted base help the filter remain stable while occupying minimal vertical space inside the aquarium.

Round Small Filter Compatibility/Notes
The filter requires an aquarium air pump, airline tubing and an appropriate flow-control valve or gang valve when adjustment is required. Airflow should be selected according to the aquarium size and the needs of its inhabitants.
A mature sponge can contain a substantial beneficial-bacteria population. Clean the foam gently in removed aquarium water rather than untreated tap water to reduce damage to the established biological filtration.
Ista Round Small Filter Directions
Rinse the filter components with clean water before installation. Assemble the sponge, base and lift tube, then place the filter upright on the aquarium bottom. Connect airline tubing from a suitable air pump to the filter inlet and position a check valve in the airline where required.
Start the air pump and adjust the airflow until water circulates steadily through the sponge without creating excessive turbulence. During maintenance, disconnect the air supply, remove the sponge and gently squeeze it several times in a container of removed aquarium water. Reassemble the filter and return it to service promptly.

Return Policy — Aquarium Equipment & Supplies
- All returns and/or exchanges must be made within 30 days of receipt of product.
- Before returning or exchanging any goods, you must contact J&L Aquatics to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). Items returned without prior authorization will be declined.
- Returned items must be unused, in original packaging, in as-new condition, and in perfect sellable condition. All returns are subject to inspection upon receipt.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all online returns. This fee includes the cost of outbound shipping.
- Customer is responsible for return shipping costs on standard returns.
- Order cancellations made before shipping are not subject to a restocking fee.

Defective, Warranty & DOA Items

- Confirmed defective and warranty returns have no restocking fee and no Affirm fee. Customer does not pay return shipping — J&L Aquatics will provide a prepaid return label.
- All defective claims are subject to inspection. Items showing signs of customer damage, improper installation, or misuse are not covered under warranty.

Affirm & Financing Orders
- Affirm or similar financing orders that are cancelled or returned in-store are subject to a 5% service charge. This covers the processing fee charged to us by the financing provider.
