High-Capacity Air-Driven Filtration with the Ista I-149
The Ista Rectangular Bio-Sponge Aquarium Filter (Large) provides increased sponge capacity for aquariums requiring dependable mechanical and biological filtration without the strong intake of a motor-driven internal filter. Its tall rectangular foam block captures suspended debris while providing extensive surface area for beneficial bacterial colonization.
When connected to an aquarium air pump, the lift tube draws water through the sponge and returns it upward with a stream of bubbles. This continuous airlift action supports aquarium circulation and oxygen exchange while maintaining gentle filtration around fry, shrimp and other small inhabitants.

Rectangular Large Filter Compatibility/Notes
The filter is particularly useful as primary filtration in suitable smaller systems or as supplemental biological filtration in larger aquariums. It can also be kept established in a mature aquarium for later use in breeding, hospital or temporary holding systems.
Allow open space around the sponge so water can enter from all exposed surfaces. The air pump should provide enough flow to maintain circulation without causing excessive turbulence or lifting the filter from its position.
Ista Rectangular Large Filter Directions
Rinse the filter components with clean water and assemble the sponge, base and lift tube. Position the filter upright on the aquarium bottom and connect it to an appropriately sized air pump using standard aquarium airline tubing.
Adjust the airflow to create steady water movement through the sponge. During maintenance, disconnect the airline and gently clean the sponge in water removed from the aquarium. Avoid untreated tap water and aggressive cleaning methods that may reduce the established beneficial-bacteria population.

Return Policy — Aquarium Equipment & Supplies
- All returns and/or exchanges must be made within 30 days of receipt of product.
- Before returning or exchanging any goods, you must contact J&L Aquatics to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). Items returned without prior authorization will be declined.
- Returned items must be unused, in original packaging, in as-new condition, and in perfect sellable condition. All returns are subject to inspection upon receipt.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all online returns. This fee includes the cost of outbound shipping.
- Customer is responsible for return shipping costs on standard returns.
- Order cancellations made before shipping are not subject to a restocking fee.

Defective, Warranty & DOA Items

- Confirmed defective and warranty returns have no restocking fee and no Affirm fee. Customer does not pay return shipping — J&L Aquatics will provide a prepaid return label.
- All defective claims are subject to inspection. Items showing signs of customer damage, improper installation, or misuse are not covered under warranty.

Affirm & Financing Orders
- Affirm or similar financing orders that are cancelled or returned in-store are subject to a 5% service charge. This covers the processing fee charged to us by the financing provider.
- The Affirm service charge does not apply to confirmed defective or warranty returns.
