The IceCap External Algae Scrubber Pro - Medium is a larger external algae turf scrubber for aquariums up to 225 gallons, giving reef and saltwater systems a controlled place to grow and harvest algae for nutrient export. With a wider screen, 24W total LED power, EVO-1000 feed pump, external above-sump layout, and emergency overflow protection, it is designed for systems that need more nitrate and phosphate control without sacrificing sump space.
Medium External IceCap Pro Turf Scrubber Overview
The Medium External Algae Scrubber Pro is built for aquariums that have outgrown smaller nutrient export options or need a dedicated algae growth chamber outside the sump. Water is pumped from the aquarium system into the scrubber and distributed over the illuminated screen. As algae establishes and thickens on the screen, it captures nutrients that can be removed from the aquarium when the screen is harvested.
This model offers a practical middle ground in the external Pro series: more screen area, higher flow capability, and more LED power than the small version, while staying more compact than the large model. It is well suited to medium reef aquariums, larger fish-only saltwater tanks, and nutrient-heavy systems where reducing nuisance algae in the display is a priority.

Medium External Scrubber Compatibility Notes
Plan plumbing before installation: The IceCap External Algae Scrubber Pro - Medium must drain back to the sump by gravity and requires drain plumbing that is not part of the scrubber body itself. Check space above and beside the sump, confirm clearance for removing the lid and screen, and ensure the drain route cannot siphon or overflow into the cabinet.
Use nutrient readings to guide adjustments: Algae growth may vary depending on nitrate, phosphate, trace elements, flow rate, light period, and available iron. Harvesting too aggressively can slow regrowth, so leave some algae on the screen after cleaning to seed the next growth cycle.

Setting Up the Medium External Turf Scrubber
Position the scrubber outside and above the sump, connect the included EVO-1000 feed pump, install suitable drain plumbing, and confirm that both the main output and overflow protection can return water safely to the sump. Adjust the valve for even screen coverage, run the LEDs on a controlled schedule, and harvest the screen every 1 to 3 weeks under normal conditions once algae growth is established.

Return Policy — Aquarium Equipment & Supplies
- All returns and/or exchanges must be made within 30 days of receipt of product.
- Before returning or exchanging any goods, you must contact J&L Aquatics to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). Items returned without prior authorization will be declined.
- Returned items must be unused, in original packaging, in as-new condition, and in perfect sellable condition. All returns are subject to inspection upon receipt.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all online returns. This fee includes the cost of outbound shipping.
- Customer is responsible for return shipping costs on standard returns.
- Order cancellations made before shipping are not subject to a restocking fee.

Defective, Warranty & DOA Items
