The Hygger Dual Multifunction Sponge Filter - Medium is an air-powered double sponge filter with a larger media chamber for mechanical filtration, biological filtration, and gentle aquarium oxygenation. Rated for aquariums up to 55 gallons, it is well suited for shrimp tanks, breeding systems, betta tanks, planted aquariums, low-flow community tanks, and supplemental filtration in freshwater or saltwater systems.
Hygger Medium Dual Sponge Filter Overview
This medium model provides larger sponge dimensions and twice the media chamber capacity of the small version. Water is pulled through the two sponge columns and media chamber by air pump-driven lift, giving the filter a gentle flow pattern that supports oxygen exchange without harsh intake suction. It is useful when extra biological surface area is needed but livestock should not be exposed to strong internal filter flow.

Medium Sponge Filter Compatibility Notes
The Hygger Dual Multifunction Sponge Filter - Medium requires a separate air pump, airline tubing, and a check valve if the air pump is installed below the water line. Choose an air pump with enough output for the aquarium depth and the desired bubble rate. Clean the sponges gently in removed aquarium water so the biological filter is not stripped during maintenance.
Setting Up the Hygger Medium Dual Sponge Filter
Rinse the sponges, ceramic media, and plastic parts with aquarium water before installation. Place the ceramic media in the center chamber, assemble the outlet pipe and sponges, connect airline tubing from a suitable air pump, and position the filter upright with the suction cups. Adjust the outlet height and air flow, then maintain the sponges every few weeks or when debris buildup reduces flow.

Return Policy — Aquarium Equipment & Supplies
- All returns and/or exchanges must be made within 30 days of receipt of product.
- Before returning or exchanging any goods, you must contact J&L Aquatics to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). Items returned without prior authorization will be declined.
- Returned items must be unused, in original packaging, in as-new condition, and in perfect sellable condition. All returns are subject to inspection upon receipt.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all online returns. This fee includes the cost of outbound shipping.
- Customer is responsible for return shipping costs on standard returns.
- Order cancellations made before shipping are not subject to a restocking fee.

Defective, Warranty & DOA Items

- Confirmed defective and warranty returns have no restocking fee and no Affirm fee. Customer does not pay return shipping — J&L Aquatics will provide a prepaid return label.
- All defective claims are subject to inspection. Items showing signs of customer damage, improper installation, or misuse are not covered under warranty.
