Hydros Control XD

The Hydros Control XD is a compact HYDROS aquarium controller built around direct 12V accessory control. With three Drive Ports, two Command Bus ports, a Power Port for added system redundancy, app-based control, alerts, and HYDROS ecosystem compatibility, the Control XD is ideal for adding low-voltage device control to a freshwater, saltwater, reef, pond, sump, or utility-system installation.

HYDROS Control XD Drive Port Controller Overview

The Control XD is designed as a focused expansion controller for aquariums that need more switched 12V outputs. It is especially useful when a system needs to run small aquarium devices such as ATO pumps, dosing pumps, cooling fans, cabinet LEDs, water solenoids, steering valves, or HYDROS iV accessories without using AC outlets for every low-voltage device. This makes it a strong add-on for an existing HYDROS Collective or a compact standalone controller for simple accessory automation.

Because the XD includes three Drive Ports and current monitoring, it is more useful than a simple low-voltage power source. It can help watch whether connected accessories are drawing current normally and notify the user if a motor or pump stops drawing current or draws too much. That makes it valuable for small pumps and accessories where silent failure can cause real aquarium problems, such as ATO interruptions, cooling fan failures, dosing pump issues, or solenoid problems.

Expanded Control XD Features

• Three switched 12V Drive Ports: The Control XD provides three Drive Ports for running compatible 12V aquarium devices. This gives users a clean way to control small accessories without taking up AC outlet space or adding multiple separate adapters.
• Current-monitored outputs: The Control XD monitors current supplied by each Drive Port, allowing the system to notify the user if a connected motor or pump quits drawing current or draws too much. This is especially useful for ATO pumps, dosing pumps, and other small devices that may fail quietly.
• Power Port redundancy: The added Power Port provides another layer of redundancy in a HYDROS control system. This is useful when building a more resilient Collective where power and communication design matter.
• Two Command Bus ports: Command Bus ports allow the XD to communicate with other HYDROS devices and become part of a larger Collective. This lets the XD share control logic with other sensors, outlets, probes, and controllers in the HYDROS ecosystem.
• Compatible accessory control: Drive Ports currently support accessories such as ATO pumps, dosing pumps, cooling fans, cabinet LED lights, water solenoids for RO systems, steering valves, and HYDROS iV. This makes the XD a practical utility controller for common aquarium automation tasks.
• Control up to eight WiFi devices: The HYDROS app can also control up to eight compatible WiFi devices such as HYDROS WiFi power strips and smart outlets, giving the XD additional expansion potential beyond its built-in Drive Ports.
• Local and cloud-based HYDROS control: The XD can be monitored and configured through the HYDROS app, supporting local WiFi access and remote cloud access for status, alerts, and control of compatible HYDROS devices.
• Fast onboard processing: HYDROS devices use onboard processing so control decisions can be made within each device. This supports the HYDROS distributed-control approach where multiple devices can contribute to system logic.
• Internal health monitoring: The Control XD can report internal status such as voltage, current, CPU status, and internal temperature, giving the HYDROS system additional awareness beyond the connected aquarium accessories.
• Aquarium-ready construction: The IP65-rated enclosure and rugged connector style are designed for the dusty, humid, splash-prone environment around aquarium stands and sumps, while the controller should still be mounted away from direct water exposure.
• Compact add-on footprint: The small form factor makes the XD easy to mount near a sump, dosing station, ATO reservoir, cabinet panel, water-mixing area, or other location where low-voltage control is needed.

XD Compatibility and Application Notes

The Hydros Control XD is best used when the system needs more Drive Ports for compatible low-voltage accessories. It does not include Sense Ports, AC outlets, pH/ORP probe ports, salinity probe ports, or dosing heads, so those functions require another HYDROS controller or accessory. The XD is a strong companion device for expanding an existing HYDROS Collective with additional 12V accessory control.

Setting Up Your HYDROS Control XD

Mount the Control XD in a dry, elevated location with secure cable routing and drip loops. Connect the controller through the HYDROS app, complete any firmware updates, and configure each Drive Port based on the attached accessory. Test each pump, fan, solenoid, or accessory before regular use, then add alerts and rules for current-draw problems, schedules, manual modes, or Collective-based responses from other HYDROS devices.
