Hanna Nitrate Checker
The Hanna Nitrate Checker HI782 is a Marine Nitrate High Range handheld colorimeter for measuring nitrate from 0.0 to 75.0 ppm as NO3 in saltwater aquariums. It is designed for marine systems where nitrate levels may be higher than the ultra-low ranges targeted by dedicated low-range nitrate checkers.
HI782 Marine Nitrate High Range Testing
Nitrate is the final step of the nitrogen cycle and can contribute to nuisance algae, dinoflagellate issues, and general nutrient imbalance when it climbs too high. The HI782 gives saltwater aquarists a direct digital nitrate reading for fish-only systems, mixed reefs, and marine aquariums that need routine nutrient monitoring.
Marine Nitrate Checker Features
- Measures marine nitrate from 0.0 to 75.0 ppm as NO3.
- Designed for saltwater samples and marine biology applications.
- 0.1 ppm resolution helps track nutrient trends over time.
- Digital display removes the challenge of visually judging pink colour shades.
- Uses the zinc reduction method, where nitrate reaction produces a pink tint in the sample.
- Requires only one reagent for less complex high-range nitrate testing.
- Compact handheld checker is convenient for regular aquarium maintenance.
- Works with Hanna HI782-25 replacement reagents.

Marine Nitrate Testing Notes
The HI782 is a high-range marine nitrate checker. For very low nutrient reef systems, Hanna’s low-range marine nitrate checker may be more appropriate. Use the HI782 when nitrate is expected within its 0.0 to 75.0 ppm range and follow sample preparation carefully to avoid testing errors.
Using the Hanna Nitrate Checker
Prepare the saltwater sample with the included reagent as directed, keep the cuvette clean and bubble-free, and read the nitrate value on the digital display. Replace reagents with Hanna HI782-25 when the starter supply is used up.
