The Hanna Free Chlorine Checker HI701 is a compact handheld colorimeter for measuring free chlorine from 0.00 to 2.50 ppm. It provides a direct digital result and is useful for checking source water, treated water, drinking water, pools, spas, and other applications where free chlorine needs to be monitored accurately.
HI701 Free Chlorine Digital Testing
Free chlorine is the active disinfecting form of chlorine in water. For aquarium use, testing source water can help confirm chlorine removal before water is used in aquariums or before water reaches sensitive filtration equipment such as RO membranes. The HI701 helps reduce the uncertainty of colour matching by displaying the result directly in ppm.

Source Water Testing Notes
Free chlorine should not be present in water being added directly to aquariums unless it has been properly treated for the livestock and filtration system. Use the HI701 to verify chlorine levels in suitable water samples and follow water conditioner or filtration-system instructions when preparing aquarium water.
Using the Hanna Free Chlorine Checker
Zero the checker with the water sample, add the HI701 reagent packet as directed, mix until dissolved, and read the prepared sample. Keep cuvettes clean and replace reagents with Hanna HI701-25 when the starter supply is finished.

Return Policy — Aquarium Equipment & Supplies
- All returns and/or exchanges must be made within 30 days of receipt of product.
- Before returning or exchanging any goods, you must contact J&L Aquatics to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). Items returned without prior authorization will be declined.
- Returned items must be unused, in original packaging, in as-new condition, and in perfect sellable condition. All returns are subject to inspection upon receipt.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all online returns. This fee includes the cost of outbound shipping.
- Customer is responsible for return shipping costs on standard returns.
- Order cancellations made before shipping are not subject to a restocking fee.

Defective, Warranty & DOA Items
