The Fluval FX4 Canister Filter is a high-performance external aquarium filter for freshwater and saltwater aquariums up to 250 US gallons / 1000 L. Designed as the mid-size FX Series workhorse, the FX4 combines Smart Pump technology, self-starting operation, strong mechanical capture, multi-stage media capacity, and built-in maintenance convenience for serious aquarium systems with higher filtration demands.
FX4 High-Output Filtration for Large Aquariums
The FX4 is built for aquariums that need substantial flow and debris capture but do not require the full size of the FX6. Its compact 16.5 inch height fits under many aquarium cabinets while still delivering FX-level filtration power. For larger freshwater displays, predator tanks, goldfish systems within appropriate stocking, turtle-support systems where compatible, and saltwater fish aquariums, the FX4 provides strong circulation and large media capacity in a manageable footprint.

Best Uses for the Fluval FX4
The Fluval FX4 is ideal when the aquarium needs high flow, serious mechanical capture, and large media capacity, but cabinet space makes the taller FX6 less practical. It is especially useful for messy freshwater fish, heavily fed systems, larger aquariums with substantial decor, and saltwater fish-only setups that benefit from strong external filtration and easy maintenance access.

Install the FX4 below the aquarium, assemble the intake and output plumbing, add water to the canister as directed, and plug in the unit so Smart Pump can complete startup. During maintenance, use the utility valve when useful, keep media baskets organized, and clean mechanical stages before flow is restricted.

- Upon request, we will ship your dry goods as per your specifications (courier, airlines, on your account, etc.).

Return Policy — Aquarium Equipment & Supplies
- All returns and/or exchanges must be made within 30 days of receipt of product.
- Before returning or exchanging any goods, you must contact J&L Aquatics to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). Items returned without prior authorization will be declined.
- Returned items must be unused, in original packaging, in as-new condition, and in perfect sellable condition. All returns are subject to inspection upon receipt.
- A 15% restocking fee applies to all online returns. This fee includes the cost of outbound shipping.
- Customer is responsible for return shipping costs on standard returns.
- Order cancellations made before shipping are not subject to a restocking fee.

Defective, Warranty & DOA Items

- Confirmed defective and warranty returns have no restocking fee and no Affirm fee. Customer does not pay return shipping — J&L Aquatics will provide a prepaid return label.
- All defective claims are subject to inspection. Items showing signs of customer damage, improper installation, or misuse are not covered under warranty.

Affirm & Financing Orders
- Affirm or similar financing orders that are cancelled or returned in-store are subject to a 5% service charge. This covers the processing fee charged to us by the financing provider.
