Focustronic Tracetronic
The Focustronic Tracetronic is an innovative automated trace element dosing system designed specifically for the small, carefully controlled supplement quantities used in modern reef aquariums. Featuring 12 individual internal trace element reservoirs and a proprietary precision droplet delivery mechanism, the Tracetronic automates complex supplementation routines without requiring a separate external dosing pump and delivery tube for every additive. Its single-hose delivery approach, programmable schedules, and integrated water mixing and cleaning process make it especially appealing to reef keepers following detailed trace element programs, including ICP-guided supplementation methods.
Automate Up to 12 Individual Trace Elements
Trace element supplementation can become increasingly complicated as a reef aquarium matures. Individual elements may require different dosing volumes and intervals, and manually administering numerous small doses throughout the week is time-consuming. Conventional multi-head dosing systems can automate these tasks, but often require many separate pumps, supplement containers, and lengths of tubing.
The Tracetronic takes a different approach by housing 12 separate 40 ml (1.35 US fl oz) trace element vials inside one unit. Its proprietary liquid handling system selects and measures individual solutions before delivering them through a shared outlet system.
- 12 independent trace element reservoirs: Store up to 12 individual supplements in separate internal vials.
- 40 ml capacity per vial: Provides dedicated storage for the relatively small quantities commonly used in trace element supplementation.
- Precision droplet measurement: Uses Focustronic's proprietary drop-counting system to deliver repeatable small-volume doses.
- Flexible scheduling: Configure individual trace elements for hourly, daily, or weekly dosing according to the selected supplementation program.
- Single-hose delivery: Avoids the clutter of running a separate aquarium delivery line for every trace element.
- Integrated design: Keeps the dosing reservoirs and precision liquid handling components within one enclosure.
Automated Mixing and Cleaning Between Supplements
One of the Tracetronic's distinguishing features is its approach to delivering multiple trace elements through a shared outlet. Rather than dispensing each concentrated additive directly into the aquarium, the system measures the selected trace element and mixes it with approximately 40 ml (1.35 US fl oz) of aquarium water before returning the diluted mixture to the system.
This premixing step is designed to distribute the supplement into the aquarium water more evenly. After dosing, the Tracetronic performs two cleaning cycles to reduce residual solution in the shared delivery pathway and help minimize cross-contamination between different trace elements.
Proprietary multi-pipette assembly: Uses 12 independent nozzles to access individual trace element reservoirs.
Automated mixing: Combines measured trace supplements with aquarium water in the internal mixing chamber.
Delivery system cleaning: Performs flushing cycles between dosing operations to help keep the common delivery pathway clear of previous supplements.
This design is particularly beneficial when operating a dosing program involving numerous different elements with small individual delivery volumes.
Ideal for ICP-Guided Reef Supplementation Programs
The Tracetronic is particularly well suited to aquarium maintenance methods that use periodic ICP laboratory testing to evaluate trace element concentrations. Programs such as Reef Moonshiners and Triton-style trace supplementation often involve individual elements with different recommended dosing quantities and schedules.
Instead of manually measuring each supplement every day, users can configure the appropriate schedule for each internal vial and allow the Tracetronic to perform routine additions. This simplifies the repetitive part of trace element management while allowing the aquarist to make changes as new test results become available.
Focustronic also describes ICP-based dosing recommendation integration, including supported workflows for reviewing proposed dosing adjustments before authorization. Availability and compatibility of these functions depend on the current software and participating ICP testing services. The Tracetronic does not perform ICP laboratory analysis itself, and an external ICP testing service remains necessary for laboratory-based trace element measurements.
App-Based Scheduling and Reservoir Management
The Tracetronic integrates with the Focustronic All in One application, allowing users to manage trace element schedules and monitor reservoir information from a compatible mobile device. Each vial can be assigned to an individual supplement and configured with its own schedule and remaining volume information.
- Independent vial scheduling: Manage different supplementation intervals for each trace element.
- Reservoir monitoring: Track remaining solution quantities and receive supported refill notifications.
- Convenient refilling: Update the recorded vial amount after adding supplement to its internal reservoir.
- Wireless operation: Configure and manage the system through the Focustronic app using Wi-Fi connectivity.
- Integrated display: Provides local operating information in addition to the mobile application.

Tracetronic Versus a Conventional Dosing Pump
Conventional dosing systems such as the Focustronic Dosetronic PRO and DC are designed to deliver liquid supplements through independent peristaltic pump channels. They are well suited to routine alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, and other general supplementation requirements. The Tracetronic instead specializes in delivering small, precisely measured quantities from as many as 12 internal trace element reservoirs through a shared liquid handling system. It is therefore a complementary device rather than a direct replacement for a conventional multi-channel dosing pump.
Directions
Place or mount the Tracetronic in a level, protected location with suitable access to the aquarium or sump. Install the supplied mixing components, internal trace element vials, and aquarium water hose following the Focustronic operating manual. Label each vial for its assigned trace element and fill it with the corresponding supplement, taking care to avoid mixing products or contaminating the containers. Connect the unit to power and complete the initial Wi-Fi and Focustronic app setup. Identify each trace element in the application and program the appropriate dosing volume and hourly, daily, or weekly schedule according to the supplement manufacturer's recommendations and the aquarium's tested requirements. Confirm correct mixing and delivery during initial operation, check reservoir levels regularly, and maintain the shared dosing pathway and mixing components as instructed by Focustronic.
