Focustronic - Magnesium PRO Reagent Kit
The Focustronic - Magnesium PRO Reagent Kit supplies the three-part chemical solutions required for automated magnesium testing with the Focustronic Mastertronic Essential. Designed for monitoring one of the three major reef-building water parameters, this kit provides approximately 83 magnesium measurements, allowing reef keepers to track magnesium levels, evaluate supplementation needs, and maintain the chemical balance that supports healthy coral growth.
Precision Magnesium Monitoring for Reef Aquariums
Magnesium plays a fundamental role in seawater chemistry by helping maintain the balance between calcium and alkalinity. When magnesium becomes depleted, maintaining stable calcium and carbonate levels can become increasingly difficult, particularly in reef aquariums with significant stony coral and coralline algae growth. Regular magnesium testing helps identify changing conditions before making unnecessary adjustments to calcium or alkalinity supplementation.
The Mastertronic Essential automates the chemical testing process using precision liquid handling and colourimetric measurement. Results are recorded through the Focustronic app, making it easier to compare magnesium measurements over time and assess whether existing supplementation is meeting aquarium demand.
- Approximately 83 magnesium tests: Suitable for scheduled routine testing without preparing a manual test each time.
- Three-part reagent system: Includes the individual solutions used for the supported Focustronic magnesium measurement procedure.
- Mastertronic Essential compatibility: Developed for the manufacturer's current automated multi-parameter testing system.
- Measurement range: Approximately 1,000 to 1,700 mg/L, covering the magnesium levels typically encountered in marine reef aquariums.
- Testing resolution: 1 mg/L with manufacturer-listed measurement accuracy of approximately ±16 mg/L.
- Integrated trend monitoring: Enables scheduled measurements that can be reviewed alongside calcium and alkalinity results.
Magnesium Testing and Supplementation Considerations
Focustronic recommends checking magnesium and calcium regularly rather than relying exclusively on alkalinity measurements. These elements generally change more gradually than alkalinity, so testing two or three times per week can provide useful information for normal reef maintenance. In systems using balanced three-part supplementation, magnesium results help determine whether the selected dosing method is maintaining the desired relationship between the major elements.
The Focustronic magnesium reagents are intended for Mastertronic Essential and are not currently approved for the original Mastertronic. They are testing chemicals only and do not increase magnesium concentrations in aquarium water.
Directions
Place Magnesium Reagents 1, 2, and 3 in the designated Mastertronic Essential vial positions 1, 2, and 3 respectively. Gently mix the reagent bottles as instructed by Focustronic before transferring the solutions, and do not exceed the recommended fill levels. Select the Focustronic magnesium reagent profile in the app, enter the appropriate reagent quantities, and configure the preferred testing schedule. Keep each reagent in its assigned vial to prevent cross-contamination, replace depleted solutions as required, and follow the manufacturer's calibration and maintenance procedures for dependable measurements.
