Focustronic Alkatronic Professional
The Focustronic Alkatronic Professional is an advanced automatic alkalinity monitoring and control system for reef aquariums, combining precise dKH testing with pH and temperature monitoring in a single connected device. Designed for aquarists who demand consistent water chemistry, the Alkatronic Professional automatically measures alkalinity, records changing conditions, and can deliver corrective alkalinity supplementation when readings fall below a configured reference value. With integrated monitoring, configurable alerts, and compatibility with other Focustronic equipment, it provides a sophisticated approach to maintaining the stable conditions required by sensitive corals and demanding reef systems.
Automatic Alkalinity Testing and Stability Control
Alkalinity is one of the most important parameters to monitor in a growing reef aquarium. Stony corals consume carbonate alkalinity as they build their skeletons, and changing consumption can cause dKH levels to drift between manual tests. The Alkatronic Professional addresses this by performing automated measurements at configurable intervals and recording the results for ongoing analysis.
Unlike a monitoring-only alkalinity tester, the Alkatronic Professional also incorporates a dedicated corrective dosing pump. When enabled, this allows the unit to dispense an appropriate alkalinity solution if the measured value falls below the selected reference level. The primary calcium reactor or dosing system can continue handling routine supplementation while Alkatronic provides an additional layer of correction and oversight.
- Automated dKH measurement: Regular alkalinity testing with manufacturer-specified accuracy of ±0.1 dKH and precision of ±0.05 dKH.
- Built-in corrective dosing: Dedicated Pump D can administer alkalinity solution when the measured value falls below the configured reference point.
- Configurable operating references: Establish alkalinity limits and testing intervals appropriate for the aquarium.
- Measurement history: Review recorded alkalinity trends to identify increasing coral consumption, changes in supplementation requirements, or developing equipment problems.
- Automatic alerts: Receive supported notifications through the Focustronic app when monitored conditions require attention.
Expanded pH and Temperature Monitoring
The Professional model extends the original Alkatronic concept by incorporating additional monitoring functions. This gives aquarists more information about changing aquarium conditions without relying exclusively on separate instruments for every measurement.
pH monitoring: A laboratory-grade pH probe records pH at the beginning of each alkalinity testing cycle, helping users follow changes associated with the daily lighting cycle, gas exchange, and the operation of calcium reactors or other aquarium equipment.
Temperature monitoring: The included temperature probe adds another important water parameter to the Focustronic monitoring system. Temperature readings and configured reference values provide additional information for assessing aquarium stability.
These functions are especially valuable in coral-heavy reef systems, where changes in alkalinity, pH, and temperature can influence overall system performance.
Integrates with Dosetronic and the Focustronic Ecosystem
The Alkatronic Professional operates independently as an alkalinity testing and corrective dosing system, but additional automation becomes available when it is connected to compatible Focustronic devices.
With a Dosetronic PRO or Dosetronic DC, alkalinity test results can influence participating dosing channels. Instead of correcting alkalinity alone, compatible dosing channels can be configured to administer additional doses, skip scheduled doses, or adjust their normal schedules according to measured consumption. This is particularly useful when maintaining balanced multi-part supplementation programs.
Supported Overall Dosing Adjustment and Selective Dosing Adjustment functions help fine-tune supplementation based on alkalinity trends. The Alkatronic Professional can also communicate with other compatible Focustronic equipment, including Powertronic, for supported automation functions. Connected devices are sold separately.

Alkatronic Professional or Mastertronic Essential?
The Alkatronic Professional is the appropriate choice when frequent, precise alkalinity monitoring and active corrective dosing are the priorities. Its dedicated alkalinity measurement system is designed to detect changes throughout the day and respond according to configured settings. The Mastertronic Essential, by comparison, is a multi-parameter testing system covering calcium, magnesium, nitrate, phosphate, alkalinity, and the Organic Level Index. For aquarists wanting comprehensive automated testing together with dedicated alkalinity regulation, the two devices can serve complementary purposes.
Directions
Install the Alkatronic Professional in a stable, protected location with access to aquarium sample water, a suitable waste outlet, and the alkalinity solution used for corrective dosing. Connect the supplied tubing, pH probe, and temperature probe according to the manufacturer's installation instructions. Install the Focustronic app and complete the Wi-Fi setup, pump calibration, and pH probe calibration procedures. Prepare the required Alkatronic reagent and configure the desired testing interval and alkalinity reference values. If using corrective dosing, verify the concentration of the alkalinity solution, configured aquarium volume, and dosing settings before activating automatic control. Review initial test results and maintain the pH probe, tubing, and measuring components as directed by Focustronic.
