At ~$150 CAD, this is expensive for a piece of acrylic, but still the cheapest overflow I was able to find, anywhere. Consider that it DOES come with the hole saw bit required to drill the tank, and the price is actually pretty reasonable, especially when compared to the competitors.
I installed this on a bordered tank, placing the included template against the border prior to drilling. Even with the deep-cut weir, it maintains a water level within the border. Eshopps put a lot of thought into the dimensions to get this right.
My only issue with the overflow so far, is it tends to whirlpool easily on the full-siphon side. Obviously inserting a strainer will prevent this, however the flow rate drops to about half by doing so.
I've found that inserting a 4/5 elbow in the 1.5" bulkhead to direct water to the emergency side, creates enough turbulence to prevent the whirpool, without the use of strainer.
A removable weird would be nice, as would a lid on the tank side, but for the price I can understand why they didn't bother.
I'd recommend to a friend. The construction, fit and finish is great.
