Collection: Red Sea Powerheads & Gyres

Red Sea's ReefWave powerheads are listed in two sizes, the 25 and the 45, both cross-flow pumps that mount on the display glass. Alongside them are the service parts that keep one running: maintenance kits for each size, impeller sets for each size, and a replacement rotor magnet for the 45. Impellers and kits are tied to a specific model, so check whether you are running a 25 or a 45 before ordering. The model number is printed on the wet side housing.

ReefWave 25 and 45

Both ReefWave models are cross-flow powerheads: rather than firing a narrow jet from a nozzle, they turn a long rotor to push a wide band of water across the tank. The 45 is the larger of the two and suits bigger displays, while the 25 covers smaller and mid-size volumes. Both mount on the glass and run at adjustable speeds rather than one fixed output.

Service parts

  • Maintenance kits listed separately for the 25 and the 45.
  • Impeller sets for each size, not shared between models.
  • A replacement rotor magnet for the ReefWave 45.

Keeping one running

A cross-flow rotor turns in salt water continuously, so the impeller and its bearing surfaces are the parts that wear. A maintenance kit covers the routine service items; the impeller set and rotor magnet are for when something has gone past cleaning. Strip and rinse the wet side on a schedule rather than waiting for the pump to slow or rattle, and keep a spare impeller on hand for any tank that depends on one pump for its main flow.
