Keep the Front Pane Clear

Algae on the glass is the one maintenance job nobody can postpone, because it is the only one your visitors notice. The tools split into two families: magnets that let you clean without wet sleeves, and scrapers on handles that reach where a magnet cannot.

What's in This Collection

• Floating cleaning magnets — from mini through large, sized to glass thickness rather than tank volume.
• Handheld scrapers — blades on handles from 12 to 28 inches, for corners, seams and the base of the pane.
• Replacement blades — stainless and plastic, sold singly and in multipacks.
• Replacement pads and scrapers — the wearing parts of a magnet, far cheaper than a new unit.

Two rules save a lot of grief. Match the magnet to your glass thickness, since one that is too weak drops off constantly and one that is too strong is a struggle to move. And never take a stainless blade to acrylic: it will scratch, permanently, in a single pass.
