Focustronic
Focustronic is a Hong Kong reef equipment maker built around one aim: stable water through testing and dosing that work as a single system. The company started in lighting with the FOCUS-1 and its patented moving light angle, then launched the Alkatronic alkalinity tester in 2016. The Dosetronic dosing station followed, able to adjust its own dosing from Alkatronic results, and the Mastertronic arrived in 2020 to add calcium, magnesium, nitrate and phosphate. Every unit runs from the Focustronic All in One app, so test results and dosing sit on one dashboard. The range here is the testing and dosing side: Alkatronic Professional, Mastertronic Essential, Dosetronic PRO and DC, Tracetronic and the reagent kits that keep the testers running.
How the Focustronic system fits together
Each Focustronic unit works on its own, but the range is designed to share data. A tester measures the water on a schedule, the result goes to the All in One app, and a doser can adjust its daily volume from that reading rather than from a hand test once or twice a week. The aim is small, frequent corrections instead of large swings.
Testers
- Alkatronic Professional tests alkalinity automatically and works to hold it steady, either on its own or paired with a Dosetronic.
- Mastertronic Essential tests calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, nitrate and phosphate in one unit, plus OLI, Focustronic's trend reading for how yellow the water is getting.
Dosers
- Dosetronic PRO has five independent channels on stepper motors, with continuous dosing and a two-pump automatic water change option.
- Dosetronic DC has five channels on smaller pumps, is built for dosing only, and works with the Alkatronic's dosing functions.
- Tracetronic holds up to 12 trace elements in 40 ml vials, premixes each dose with tank water and delivers it through a single hose on an hourly, daily or weekly schedule.
Reagents
Focustronic reagent kits are made for the Mastertronic Essential and come singly for calcium, magnesium, nitrate, phosphate and alkalinity, or as a full set. The Alkatronic takes its own Alkatronic CONC reagent. Focustronic does not list its kits for the original Mastertronic. The Mastertronic Essential also accepts off-the-shelf reagents, so testing can carry on if a Focustronic kit runs out between orders.
J&L Aquatics was formed in December 1997
Our business was started from our love of the aquarium hobby. We at J&L Aquatics felt that the Canadian aquarist should have the option to purchase top quality supplies, equipment and livestock other than the generally over priced local retail stores.
