Three Kinds of Media, Three Jobs

Filtration works in three stages, and most tanks use media from each. Mechanical media traps particles; biological media houses the bacteria that convert ammonia and nitrite; chemical media strips out dissolved pollutants like phosphate, organics, and discolouration. Knowing which job you're solving tells you which media to reach for. We stock media from Seachem, Boyd, RowaPhos, Reef Crest, PolypLab, and Fluval.

Media by Function

• Biological — porous bio media that seeds and sustains your nitrogen cycle.
• Activated carbon — removes organics, odours, and discolouration for clear, clean water.
• Phosphate removers — GFO and iron-based media that starve nuisance algae of phosphate.
• Specialty resins — products like Purigen and Chemi-Pure that polish water and pull organics.
• Bags & socks — mesh media bags to hold loose media in your filter or reactor.
