      Hanna Phosphorus Checker

Handheld Checker for Phosphorus - HI736

The Hanna Phosphorus Ultra Low Range (0 to 200 ppb) Checker bridges the gap between simple chemical test kits and professional instrumentation.

Chemical test kits have limited accuracy and resolution since they rely upon the human eye to discern differences in color. Professional instrumentation incorporates a light source such as an LED or tungsten lamp with a filter and a light sensing detector to precisely determine ion concentration. Professional instrumentation offers greater resolution and accuracy but can cost hundreds of dollars.

The Hanna Phosphorus Ultra Low Range Checker uses a fixed wavelength LED and silicon photo detector to provide the accuracy of professional instrumentation at the affordable price of a chemical test kit.

      Best tester!

Was having a few issues with my new reef tank and I contacted J&L and was told if you want to really dive deep and see the actual readings of the phosphate then grab the UL Phosphorus checker and that'll give you a reading, and not just a ZERO like the Phosphate checker displays as its not as accurate, this one measures PPB and not PPM and you don't even need to do any math to figure the conversion out. Just go to the Hanna site and its in pdf. Print it off and viola!

      Great for reef tanks

I find that other kits that rely on matching color cards to the color inside a test tube are much harder to get a true value for phosphate - especially for reef tanks that run with ultra low nutrients. I had been struggling to get a good reading on what my phosphate level was until I got this (always looked like 0). I had actually bought the other Hanna Low Phosphate (0-2.5 ppm) checker thinking that would work fine but it constantly read 0 as well. The precision on this Phosphorus checker is way more accurate. The conversion from Phosphorus (ppb) to Phosphate (ppm) is PhosphorusReading*3.066/1000. I like to have some amount of phosphate and nitrates to ensure corals and some green algae or chaeto can grow and outcompete bad algae (dinos/diatoms).

      Good buy

I purchased this as my s******t PO4 kit was expiring soon and always testing zero (or perhaps I misread the test). The Hanna is not faster when it comes to testing the water, but the digital read out is superior to the colour comparison that most tests use. If you are in need of figuring out your PO4 for your tank due to coral issues, I would recommend this over the typical test kit. If you do get consistent readings on your test kit and have no nutrient related issues, I would not bother with it.
