It happens to all of us at some point during our reefing careers. You've to your alkalinity level right where you want it, but you're plagued by chronically low pH. If this sounds all too familiar, then rest assured you've come to the right place. There is a solution that is neither complicated nor expensive. All you'll need is a simple device called a CO2 Scrubber. It looks very similar to a media reactor, so the familiar form factor should put you at ease before you even begin.
The IceCap CO2 Scrubber, in particular, is an attractive and affordable option that is nearly universally compatible with any aquarium running a protein skimmer. The way it works is simple: you just attach the tubing that comes with the scrubber to the air intake on your skimmer. Then, you connect the other end to the CO2 scrubber and you're done. That's it! Now you'll be able to raise the pH of your aquarium and control carbon dioxide.

Our user-friendly give you a visual cue when it's time to replace it: it changes color from white to pink! Once the color change is complete, you'll know it's time to replace the media (although you should still be checking your levels regularly with a pH test kit).
Our media isn't teeny-tiny like competitor products. We picked a perfectly pelletized size for minimal dust and maximum performance.
We've got nothing to hide. There's no secret recipe or proprietary blend. You should always know what you're putting into your tank, so that's why we put it on the label! Our media is a precise mixture of Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH).
Our convenient size (1kg) or 2.2lbs makes sure you get exactly what you need.
It's essential to replace the media after it's exhausted. If exhausted and left to stand it will revert back to a white color. It will appear to be fresh but it is not usable anymore. Instructions
Fill your reactor with CO2 Absorbent Media
Connect the output of the reactor to the skimmer's intake
Monitor your pH and replace the media once it turns pink or if pH begins to drop.
How Often Do I Replace Media
Once the media has completely changed colors from white to pink, you'll want to take the old media out (it cannot be regenerated) and replace it with new media. In terms of frequency, it's going to vary from hobbyist-to-hobbyist for a variety of reasons, including the aquarium itself and the environment in which it is located (your home, office, etc.). But as a general rule of thumb, you'll want to be prepared to change the media every two weeks (14 days). We recommend always have extra media on hand. That way, you'll never be caught in a situation where the parameters you've worked hard to stabilize begin to shift.

IceCap CO2 Scrubber - Medium
Raise pH in Your Reef Aquarium with an
Overview
The pH in a reef tank should be around 8.3 for optimal coral growth. If you're struggling to maintain pH or if your aquarium suffers from chronically low pH, connecting an IceCap CO2 scrubber to the air intake of your protein skimmer is a great way to increase and keep your pH level within ideal ranges.
Run This Simple Test to See if a CO2 Scrubber Will Help You
The Carbon Dioxide (CO2) level in your home or office may be contributing to the low pH level in your saltwater aquarium. A house full of people and pets affects the pH in your tank. In fact, it's usually the cause of low pH in a home aquarium. An experiment you can perform to find out if this is the culprit behind your low pH is to open up the windows and doors in your home for a day to let the excess CO2 escape. After 24 hours, test your aquarium's pH. If the pH level has risen, you can be pretty confident that the CO2 load in your home is high and that a CO2 scrubber will help. Since keeping the windows and doors of your home open all the time isn't an option for most people, a CO2 scrubber is an easy and affordable way to remove CO2 gas so that it doesn't suppress the pH of your aquarium water.
Installing is Super Easy
The IceCap CO2 Scrubber can be installed on just about any aquarium with a protein skimmer. Just connect the tubing from the air intake of your protein skimmer to the output side of the CO2 scrubber. You may be able to remove the silencer from your protein skimmer. Next, remove the lid of the scrubber and fill the reactor with IceCap Carbon Dioxide Adsorption Media (or your preferred CO2 absorbent media) and place it back inside the scrubber. Finally, put the lid back on the scrubber and tighten it. Test the pH level of your aquarium water hourly (or as frequently as possible) during the first few days of use. Once the pH level begins to drop (usually after 2-4 weeks), it's time to replace the media inside. Most carbon dioxide removal media changes colors once it's depleted, so you'll likely have a visual indicator as well to help you determine when it's time to swap it out.
Running a CO2 Scrubber Helps Raise and Maintain pH
The IceCap CO2 Scrubber will not only raise your pH by a couple of points, but it will also help maintain it at higher levels. Having low pH results in slower coral growth, so by boosting it with the IceCap CO2 scrubber, you'll be able to achieve faster growth and experience fewer pH swings. With your pH level stable, coral growth and nutrient uptake will increase. Calcium and magnesium consumption are also likely to increase as you raise the pH level, so be sure to continue testing your major water parameters along the way to ensure your reef flourishes.

Innovative Design Ventilation slots in the lid of the filter and aeration grooves in the outflow ensure that water returned to the tank is fully oxygenated and maximize gas exchange during filtration. The pump pushes water up into the basket of the filter, entering through the bottom of the basket and being pushed out the top. A bottom-to-top flow ensures that water comes into contact will all filter media, and cannot go around or over filter media as with hang on back filters with a back-to-front flow. The pump is also insulated and silent, making it excellent for office or dining room aquariums, and has extremely low power consumption for the amount of output - the large Tidal 110 filter uses only 12 watts. Over time, filtration media can become clogged with detritus and prevent water from flowing through. When this happens in the Tidal Filter, water is redirected around the filter and back into the aquarium through an outlet to the side. When this happens, the redirected water pushes up the blue maintenance monitor on the top of the filter, letting the aquarium keeper know that the filter media needs to be cleaned out. The basket is designed with raised slots which catch detritus rather than allowing it to fall through back into the filter when flow is stopped. A heater can be attached to the side with an optional heater clip, allowing for better dispersal of heated water through the aquarium. Water recirculates within the filter, so turning the flow rate down will not wear the pump down or cause problems within the filter.
