The fine-bubbly air was created in the device with a venturi air nozzle and Turbelle pressure pump, which enabled a very compact design compared to the counter-current flow skimmers which were being used back then.

The TUNZE "Skimmer devices" were developed in different versions for smaller reef biotopes, cabinet systems and for the compact internal technology - Comline. After extensive research on the optimization of the disperser-principle, the first "Hydrofoamer" which was a specially developed skimmer pump, was manufactured in 2005. At that time, it was capable of conveying 800l/h (211 US gal.) of air with a power consumption of only 23W.

In 2012, the "TUNZE Foamer" was specially developed for the Comline internal technology, as an air generator for internal skimmers with a very low energy consumption and a high performance. It opened up the door for the new generation of efficient TUNZE internal skimmers with a very compact design.

Simple, quiet and effective - these are the current demands towards aquarium components. That's precisely what distinguishes the small Comline DOC Skimmer 9001 - a true "plug and play" skimmer for small seawater aquariums with 20 to 140 liters (5.3 to 37 US gal.).

There's no complicated setting or regular adjustment required for the operation. A simple installation into a corner of the aquarium is sufficient and it will work autonomously.
