Neptune Trident Testing System
The Neptune Trident Testing System is an ultra-premium automated marine aquarium water analyzer that regularly tests alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium, then sends the results to a compatible Apex system for alerts, trend tracking, and dosing control.
Automated Alkalinity Calcium and Magnesium Testing
The Trident is designed for reef aquariums where stability is a priority and manual testing is no longer enough. Instead of relying on occasional spot checks, the Trident can automatically test core reef chemistry on a schedule, report the results through Apex Fusion, and help the aquarist understand how alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium change throughout the day.
For SPS-dominant reefs, mixed reefs, heavy coral-load systems, dosing-heavy aquariums, and high-end displays, the Trident provides a level of visibility that is difficult to achieve with manual testing alone. It helps reveal trends such as daily uptake patterns, dosing mismatches, salinity-related magnesium changes, and parameter drift before they become bigger problems.
Neptune Trident Features
- Automated core reef testing: Tests alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium in saltwater aquariums and reports the data to a compatible Apex system.
- High-frequency alkalinity testing: Capable of testing alkalinity up to 24 times per day for detailed stability tracking.
- Calcium and magnesium testing: Capable of testing calcium and magnesium up to 12 times per day for each parameter.
- Precision testing: Manufacturer precision is listed at +/- 0.05 dKH for alkalinity and +/- 15 ppm for calcium and magnesium.
- Automated titration and colorimetric identification: Automates the style of testing normally performed manually with colour-change titration and electronic result interpretation.
- Low sample volume: Uses approximately 7.9 ml of aquarium water per parameter tested, helping reduce salinity impact compared with higher-volume testing systems.
- Apex Fusion reporting: Sends test results to Apex Fusion for graphs, history, dashboards, alerts, and remote visibility.
- High and low alerts: Alerts can be configured when parameters move outside user-selected ranges.
- DOS dosing integration: When paired with a compatible DOS system sold separately, Trident data can be used for Automatic Dosing Control.
- Simple installation workflow: Designed for guided Apex Fusion setup with no tubing cutting, pump calibration, or probe calibration required during standard setup.
Why Trident Matters on High-End Reef Systems
Alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium are the foundation of coral skeletal growth and long-term reef stability. Manual testing can work, but it often misses fast changes, daily patterns, and dosing errors that occur between tests. The Trident helps close that gap by turning reef chemistry into a live data stream that can be viewed, graphed, and used for alerts.
This is especially valuable on systems where coral demand changes quickly. As corals grow, light schedules change, pH shifts, or nutrient levels move, consumption can change as well. With regular automated testing, the aquarist has a better chance of catching those changes early and adjusting dosing before alkalinity or calcium moves too far from target.
Automatic Dosing Control Potential
When paired with a compatible Neptune DOS system, the Trident can support Automatic Dosing Control for alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium. This allows the Apex system to use Trident results to gradually adjust dosing within controlled limits, helping maintain more consistent target values while retaining safeguards against sudden or excessive changes.
DOS equipment is sold separately. Dosing automation should always be configured carefully, tested conservatively, and monitored regularly, especially when controlling concentrated supplements or systems with high coral demand.

Compatibility and Use Notes
The Trident requires a compatible Apex system and is not a stand-alone tester. It also requires connection to the aquarium water source, a waste container or drain, and the proper 1LINK or power/AquaBus setup. Keep the unit in a dry, protected location and maintain reagent replacement according to the testing schedule used.
For best results, use Trident data as part of a complete reef management routine. Automated testing can provide excellent visibility, but dosing changes, reagent replacement, calibration, waste handling, and aquarium response should still be reviewed regularly.
Setup Directions
Place the Trident within the required distance of the aquarium water source, connect the sample and waste tubing, connect the 1LINK cable or required power and AquaBus setup, and run the guided setup task in Apex Fusion. Confirm sample-line placement, waste routing, reagent installation, and result reporting before relying on the system. Review the first several test results and alerts to confirm the unit is operating as expected.
