      still expensive....

I've been using a siphon overflow for about 10 years. If I had a choice, I would have had my tank drilled but I already had fish in my tank when I decided to put in a sump and didn't want to move the fish. I've never had a problem with this siphon overflow.Every once in a while I see a big air bubble in the U tube. I just increase the flow on my pump and then try to slow the flow in the other U tube and that usually is enough to blow out the air bubble. When the power goes off it stops; the power comes back on , it starts. Hasn't failed me over the years; and have never had a spill because of it...there was a spill one time, but that was me putting too much water into the system.I have built 2 DIY overflows with PVC and its never as cheap as they say. The DIY video's don't take into account the tools or glue needed for the build. My first build cost about $60. So, for this product to be competitive, it should cost about half as much. But, it is good quality, and it has always worked for me. Finally, the clear U tubes is a big plus over the DIY pvc build as I can see the air bubble. Whereas with pvc tubes, you cant.
