Mechanical Filtration That Advances Itself

A roller filter holds a spool of fleece across the water path and winds fresh material through as the used section clogs. The job a filter sock does — trapping detritus before it breaks down — happens the same way, minus the part where you remember to swap and wash the sock. What it buys you is consistency: the fleece is never more than slightly loaded.

Before You Buy

Check the roll. Refills are model-specific; width and length matter more than brand loyalty here.
Measure the sump section the unit sits in, including the height you need above it to load a fresh roll.
Budget for consumables. A roller filter is an ongoing fleece cost rather than a one-off purchase.
Fleece is mechanical only. It catches solids; it does not remove what has already dissolved.
