Treat in a Separate Tank, Not the Display

Almost every treatment is easier, cheaper and safer in a bare quarantine tank than in a stocked display. Dosing is accurate against a known volume, nothing is absorbed by rock or sand, and no invertebrate is exposed to a product that was never meant for it. Quarantining new arrivals before they join the display is the single habit that prevents the most trouble.

  • Reef pest controls — products aimed at aiptasia and flatworms.
  • Nuisance algae treatments — including products aimed at cyanobacteria.
  • Medication binders — used to bind treatments into food for target dosing.
  • Chemical filtration pads — absorbent pads used to strip a treatment back out afterwards.
  • Acclimation and breeding boxes — in-tank enclosures for new arrivals, fry and fish needing separation.
  • Specimen containers — for isolating, transporting and observing individual fish.

Read the label and follow it exactly. Dosage, duration and compatibility with invertebrates vary by product, and the bottle instructions override anything you read elsewhere, including this page.
